Message from Headship Team

Dear Parents,

We would like to thank all parents, children and staff for their continued support while we exit this latest lock down.

The children are working very hard to organise a digital Christmas concert, it is wonderful to have something so cheerful to look forward to!

We wish you all a happy long weekend with your families.

Zoe and Kelly

SAFETY

Thank you to all who are continuing to wear face masks in the playground when dropping off and picking up children. Please also continue to maintain social distancing when talking to other parents. If you need a conversation with your child's teacher, please call the school office, the teacher will contact you via telephone or email.

In classrooms

During this time with the pandemic,  we are keeping the school well ventilated. Where possible, we have windows and doors open. Children may need to wear thermal vests, layers in order to keep warm.

Keeping Children Safe

With children indoors and spending more time online during this second lockdown, it is important to continue creating opportunities for conversations about online safety. The ‘Think U Know’ website (https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/) has a range of Home Activity Packs (https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/Support-tools/home-activity-worksheets/) that contain simple 15 minute activities that you can do together to support online safety at home.

Here are our top tips for ensuring children are safe online:

• Talk to your child about how to stay safe online.

• Tell them to never share personal information, including pictures, passwords and their location on social media.

• Tell them to never talk to someone online who they do not know.

• Tell them to report anything that worries or concerns them.

• Tell them not to open messages from people they do not know.

• Ensure parental controls are set in order to block upsetting or harmful content.

• Talk to your child about the websites they visit and discuss what is appropriate.

• Explore websites and apps together.

• Ensure you child does not access services and content which are not age appropriate.

                      Parent engagement with school

During this unprecedented time of Coronavirus, sadly, we are unable to have parents in the school.  Therefore, we  are running workshops and coffee afternoons via zoom.

A presentation on supporting your child to read will take place on Thursday 3 December 13:00 in English and to 14:00 in Turkish. A zoom invite will be sent to all parents via text on the day.

For your diary-Future parent zoom meetings:

03/11/2020  'Reading at home with your child'  13:00 in English  14:00 in Turkish

10/12/2020  'All about phonics'   (KS1)

17/12/2020  'Coffee afternoon'  (all parents)

Get caught reading!

Our teachers have been caught reading in some unusual places. They love to read and take any opportunity they can to delve into a good book.  Please feel free to share your photos of you reading in your favourite places. Pop a picture into Seesaw or bring in a photo for your teacher to share.

Let's get the whole of Chesterfield reading every day!

Christmas cards

It's that time of year again!  Classes will have post boxes for any children who would like to bring in Christmas cards for their friends. The cards will remain in the postbox the required quarantine time before we 'deliver' them out.

Class Attendance

Our school target is 96%

We aim for all children to reach the school target and above. All self isolating or covid related absences are not included in the child's attendance figure.

Class attendance is celebrated in assembly every week.

Week 16th- 20th November

Classes with 96% and over were:

Year 3 Lavender 98%

Year 6 Birch 97%

Year 6 Hazel 98%

Year 2 Kingfisher 96%

year 4 Thyme 96%

Well done!

EVERY DAY IN SCHOOL COUNTS!

What are you reading?

This half term the children are finding out which books the adults at Chesterfield are reading. The children are conducting interviews with adults around the school to find out more.

This interview was lead by Ausra Ramdharry- Panka, Member of School Parliament for Hazel Class. Ausra chose to interview Amy Warner, Class Teacher.

What book are you currently reading?

I’m reading The Mozart Question at the moment.

What is your favourite part so far and why?

My favourite part is when he tells the interviewer the story of his life because I found it really interesting.

Who is your favourite character and why?

My favourite character is the reporter. She is so awkward but she was really honest and he ended up answering the question.

Who is your least favourite character and why?
My least favourite character is the editor of the magazine because I find her a bit rude.

Why did you pick this book?

It was recommended to me and I found the title intriguing. The illustrations also add to the story.

Enfield Learning Trust Agility Competition

Last week, Year 3 took part in our ELT competition to test agility. The children thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and can be proud of being part of such a big, virtual event.

Congratulations to Randy and Esila, who completed the event in the fastest times. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the Spring newsletters, when we will complete this again and see who has improved the most.

London Youth Games – Nike Virtual Cross Country

Nike x LYG Virtual Cross Country is an exciting new virtual event designed to keep young Londoners active and give them the chance to represent their Boroughs during lockdown.

If you are interested in participating you will need to time a 1500m run.

There are two elements that will contribute to the Borough overall score:

1 – Participation: Participants who takes part in the event will score 1 point for their Borough. Participants will be asked to submit their entry and their time but do not need to provide proof of their time.

2 – Performance: Participants who upload proof of time over their set distance will be entered into a leader board for their age group. The fastest 50 times in each age group will be awarded additional points, which will be added onto the overall Borough score. For example – Fastest U13 girl = 50 points, 2nd fastest = 49 point

The competition starts on Sunday 21st November and finishes on Sunday 6th December.
