Thursday 1st April 2021

Dear Parents,

We hope you are all keeping well and safe.

We have had a packed four weeks, since the children have been back to school. Lots of learning and fun events have taken place.

The children have settled back to school very well. They have also taken on the responsibility to do the very best with their learning and have made some good progress.

We are saying goodbye to Ozlem our Year 6 teacher today. She will be transferring to another school within our Academy-we wish her the best of luck.

We would also like to say goodbye and good luck to one of our dinner supervisors-Karen. Happy retirement!

We hope you all have a restful and fun break.

School starts again on Monday 19th April for all children.

Easter break

School will be closed as usual for the Easter holidays (2nd – 16th April). The government has announced that schools are not expected to remain open to vulnerable children and the children of critical workers during this time.

Please remember to let the school know, by emailing the Chesterfield office, if your child tests positive for Covid19 at the start of the holidays. We have been provided with the following contact tracing guidance from the Department of Education:

• If a pupil or staff member tests positive for coronavirus (Covid-19), having developed symptoms within 48 hours of being in school, the school is asked to assist in identifying close contacts and advising self-isolation, as the individual may have been infectious whilst in school.

• Where a pupil or staff member tests positive for coronavirus (Covid-19), having developed symptoms more than 48 hours since being in school, schools are not required to take any action. Staff and parents should follow contact tracing instructions provided by NHS Test and Trace.

Easter bonnet time

The children (and staff) in Early Years had a creative and enjoyable time today designing and wearing their Easter bonnets.

Attendance Poster competition

One child, one class, one day!

Recently the whole school took part in creating posters to highlight the importance of attending school every day.  The children created some wonderful posters which were shared with our Enfield Learning Trust CEO-Sarah Turner and our Chair of Governors-Matt Miller.

It was really good to see that everybody appreciates how important it is to come to school on time and everyday. Every lesson counts, so that is why we are so determined to have the very best attendance possible and for that to happen, we need every child, every family and every member of staff to play their part. So, one very big team whose goal is to be at school everyday.

Because attendance is so important, and because the posters sent a very strong message about 'one child, one class, one day' Sarah and Matt felt that it would be appropriate to award prizes to each of the following children making them all winners. Each child will receive a £20 Amazon voucher to buy books.

Attendance

Our school target is 96%

At Chesterfield we take attendance and punctuality very seriously as we want to give all of our children the best possible start in life and there is a direct link between the amount of time children spend in school and the progress they make.

We recognise the role parents have to play in supporting and encouraging good attendance and punctuality. Thank you for your support.

Please remember our staggered beginning and end of day times are there to support social distancing. Children are still expected to arrive on time. It is not fair for a child to walk into a lesson that has already started. All children must be in school by 9:10

Classes with the highest attendance for the week of 22nd - 26th  March 2021 are:

Reception: Tulip class 93%

Year 1: Thames and Nile classes 96%

Year 2: Kingfisher class 91%

Year 3: Violet class 97%

Year 4: Turmeric and Cinnamon classes 96%

Year 5: Cranberry class 96%

Year 6: Spruce class 98%

Keeping Children Safe

Have you ever had concerns about the welfare of a child? Perhaps you think they are being neglected – left alone in the house or looking unkempt. You might have witnessed a parent or other adult physically or verbally mistreating a child.

If you have concerns, we are happy to listen to you and support you in making a decision about whether to take the concerns further. All our staff have up to date child protection training and a core group are designated child protection leads. If you are worried about the safety of a child and are not able to contact the school, you can call the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 or the Enfield Children’s Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub on 020 8379 5555 (Mon – Thu 9am – 5pm; Fri 9am – 4:45pm). Out of office hours call: 020 8379 1000 (select option 2 and you will be transferred to an advisor). Remember in an emergency always call 999.
