Friday 7th May 2021

Dear Parents,

We hope you are all keeping well and safe.

With the Government gradually easing restrictions over the coming months, we will be looking closely at what this might mean for schools and will update parents accordingly.

Thank you for adhering to our staggered start and end times and the wearing of a face covering whilst on site. In school, we are continuing to focus on supporting learning, mental health and well-being. As you know, the government announced that no statutory tests will be taking place in primary schools this year. Tests including Early Years assessments for Reception, Phonics for Year 1 and SATs for Years 2 and 6 have all been cancelled by the Government due to the disruption children have faced this year. We will be carrying out our own assessments over the Summer Term. This information will help teachers and leaders to identify if there are any significant gaps in learning, due to school closures, and how those gaps can be narrowed. On-going assessment happens all the time in the classroom, so the children will be quite used to working in this way.

We were very happy to be able to start our after school clubs this term. They have proved to be very popular.

Have a lovely weekend!

Attendance and punctuality

At Chesterfield we take attendance and punctuality very seriously as we want to give all of our children the best possible start in life and there is a direct link between the amount of time children spend in school and the progress they make.

We recognise the role parents have to play in supporting and encouraging good attendance and punctuality. Thank you for your support.

Please remember that school gates now open 8:50 - 9:05.

Children MUST be in school by 9:05. Children arriving after 9:05 will be marked as late in the register.

Please be on time everyday. This helps your child form good life habits for the future. Occasionally lateness may be due to an event beyond your control. However in general being late should be avoided for the following reasons:

Children who are late:

  • Miss out on valuable learning and group discussions
  • Feel uncomfortable coming in late into a class of children already getting on with their work
  • May have a shorter time to find out what they are doing and to complete their task, which may put them off trying their best

If you are late more than three times a supportive meeting takes place with our attendance officer and Deputy Headteacher.

This year we will be singing: 'Lovely Day' Billy Ocean version. More info here: https://www.youngvoices.co.uk/biggest-sing/.

Our talented music teacher, Magda and the children are very excited about this, watch this space!

Trespassing on railway lines

Due to the very high level of trespassing on the tracks by young people in the local area, Network Rail in partnership with Learn Live are working to help raise awareness to students across the UK educating them about the dangers of the train tracks through interactive digital delivery.

Please click on the link below to watch a safety video:

https://learnliveuk.com/network-rail-primary-school-safety-talk/

The session is less than 15 minutes and explains why it is important to stay safe near the tracks.

Over 8 million students, parents and teachers from across the UK have significantly decreased the number of trespasses in their area through watching the safety clip.
