Safety and Respect

We promote children walking to school and back home or using bicycles or scooters. We have an area inside our gates to store scooters and bikes.

May you all please respect the privacy of our neighbours and do not let the children ride their scooters or bikes in our neighbours driveways and around their cars.

For those who drive a car to school-please do not block driveways or double park in Chesterfield Road. This is not respectful for people living on Chesterfield, and it may also cause accidents.

At Chesterfield Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously as we want to give all our children the best possible start in life. There is a direct link between the amount of time children spend in school and the progress they make.

In our weekly assemblies we celebrate classes that reach 96% and above for the previous weeks' attendance.

Well done to the following classes:

19th -23rd September

  • Brazil class 97%
  • China class 98%
  • France 97%
  • Olympus class 100%
  • Peru class 97%
  • Spain class 98%
  • Wales class 97%

26th -30th September

  • Argentina class 96%
  • Brazil class 98%
  • Peru class 97%
  • Scotland class 97%
  • Spain class 96%

We would like children to adopt good habits of attending and punctually. It is disruptive to your child and to the rest of the class when children arrive late. Latecomers may miss important information and teaching and children are often upset about going into classes  late as they feel embarrassed.

Reading Club starting Tuesday 11th October

Parents and children are very welcome to come and read and listen to stories in our school library on Tuesday 11th October.

Please come in at 8.30am via the big playground.

Some safety suggestions for children who have permission to walk home alone:

  1. Know your route well
  2. Know your address and parent/s phone numbers
  3. Know what to do in an emergency
  4. Know where it is safe to cross the road
  5. Know when to seek help

If your child walks home alone, please discuss the points above.

Friday 14th October

Following meetings with our school attendance ambassadors, children have discussed ways to promote attendance. One of these ideas is to have ‘special days’ to promote children to come to school.

The first of these days will be, ‘break the rules day’.

Therefore, we would like to give each child the opportunity to break some school rules for the day.

Children can choose to break some rules listed below. We aim to make this a fun experience and children are reminded that all other school rules still apply!

Please see the list below on rules that are allowed to be broken.

  • No uniform
  • Juice/squash in water bottle instead of water
  • Chocolate for snacks
  • Trainers that are not black
  • Eat your pudding before your meal for lunch
  • Nail varnish
  • Temporary tattoo

A £1.00 donation will be appreciated. All money raised will go towards attendance rewards.
