End of our first half-term this academic year

We have had a busy first half-term back to school. There has been a buzz of excitement and learning. We wish you all a restful half-term break and see you all again on Monday 31st October.

At Chesterfield Primary School, we take attendance and punctuality very seriously as we want to give all our children the best possible start in life. There is a direct link between the amount of time children spend in school and the progress they make.

In our weekly assemblies we celebrate classes that reach 96% and above for the previous weeks' attendance, achieving classes receive a certificate. When a class gets ten certificates-there is a reward!

Well done to the following classes:

3rd - 7th October

  • Argentina class 98%
  • Atlantic class 97%
  • Brazil class 96%
  • England Class 98%
  • France class 96%
  • Ghana class 99%
  • Olympus class 98%
  • Peru class 98%
  • Scotland class 97%
  • Spain class 97%
  • Turkey class 96%

10th -14th October

  • Atlantic class 97%
  • Brazil class 98%
  • England class 97%
  • France class 96%
  • India class 96%
  • Pacific class 96%
  • Peru class 98%
  • Spain class 96%
  • Wales class 97%

We would like children to adopt good habits of attending and punctually. It is disruptive to your child and to the rest of the class when children arrive late. Children arriving late may miss important information and teaching.                                                             School gates open 8.50 and close at 9:05

Children are marked late if they arrive after 9.10

Children in Year 5 who achieved 100% attendance this term received a celebratory breakfast. Well done!

Thank you to our attendance ambassadors for promoting 'Break the Rules Day'  as an incentive to raise awareness of the importance of attendance.

Thank you for your donations. We managed to raise money for every class to use towards attendance rewards.

Does your child find it difficult to attend school for emotional reasons?

Art day

This half term, in art, we were able to celebrate black artists and culture as part of Black History month.  Both children and staff enjoyed being creative and learning about a new artist and the way in which they work.

Year groups were able to select their own artist as a means of inspiration! The most popular choice was Brianna Mccarthy followed by Stephen Wiltshire. The children analysed their work, got inspired and created their own masterpieces.

Children also got the opportunity to practise their observational drawing skills by drawing a still life made up from a variety of black cultural objects. Everyone had a really lovely day, and we are so proud of the fantastic art that they produced.

Please ask your child more about this day, the artist they looked at and the work they created.

Let's get running

Over the last two weeks, everyone from year 1 to year 6 has been running 2.6 miles in order to complete the Schools' London Mini-Marathon. It has been a great success and everyone was able to walk or run 7 laps a day, around the playground. After half-term, children will receive a badge in recognition of their efforts. Well done all, and we look forward to completing the mini-marathon again next year!

This month we are celebrating amazing work from one of our pupils - Joel in  Year 6. Joel composed 2 songs in GarageBand app  and we were very impressed with his amazing work! Well done Joel!

We are also celebrating Black History Month in music. See calendar of events that were carried out this month. Pupils also prepared extra posters of their favourite artist this month!

Internet safety

What can you do to help?

• Use stories to introduce the topic to make it easier to spark a conversation with children such as Digiduck’s Big Decision and The Internet is like a Puddle

• Agree together what is appropriate for them to do online so they feel part of the decision making process

• Create a safe place for them to talk to you or a trusted adult if they run into issues online

• Show them that not everything they see online is true and tell them to always try and check other sources. Remind them that if something appears ‘too good to be true’ then it probably is!

• Use parental controls to block access to adult and inappropriate sites
