Message from Headship Team

Dear Parents,

As we reach the end of our fifth week since the beginning of term, we feel we must express our thanks to all parents, children and staff for the 'can do' attitude in supporting our school and community through this pandemic. Until Covid is out of all of our lives, we must continue to be vigilant in order to keep everyone safe.

Please click here to view answers to some frequently asked questions about Covid.

Every decision we make has the safety of the children, staff and community. Please ensure that you continue to follow all the guidance that has been sent home, and on our website.

Please advise us as soon as possible if your child or household have symptoms or your child or someone in your household has had a positive test.

If your child receives a positive test over the weekend or has COVID 19 symptoms we ask that you report this to us as soon as possible on the COVID 19 report an absence form on our website, or alternatively click here

Sometimes, incidents may occur between children and understandably, parents feel they need to resolve the concern by approaching children/other parents themselves. Please do not talk to other children or parents regarding incidents that have occurred in school between  children. We always advise children to talk to an adult in school about any worries and staff will resolve the matter and inform parents of the outcome. Thank you for your co-operation.

Finally, thank you for maintaining social distancing when waiting at the school gates, and for the patience and understanding of our dismissal timetable.

sWorld Mental Health Day

Saturday 10th October

World mental health awareness day was launched by the Mental Health Foundation and has been running since 2001. It has been raising awareness for a range of issues including stress and loneliness.

Mental health issues can affect anyone at any time, and this day is an opportunity to improve all our knowledge about it.

Keeping within the daily recommendatonss for physical activity is a key way to improve your well being as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Try walking

Why is walking the perfect activity for health?

  • Almost everyone can do it
  • You can do it anywhere and anytime
  • It's free and you don't need special equipment
  • You can start slowly and build up gently

Walking can:

  • Make you feel good
  • Give you more energy
  • Reduce stress and help you sleep better
  • Keep your heart strong and reduce blood pressure
  • Help you manage your weight

WINNER!

A couple of weeks ago, families had the opportunity to complete a free school meal application and were put in a draw to win £50.

All families that completed the application received a free water bottle.

One lucky person won the £50 tesco voucher-congratulations to:

Merve in Violet class!

Poetry day

Last week the children enjoyed reading and listenning to all different kinds of poems on 'World Poetry day'. Look at our calendar on 1st October to hear a poem read by Emma.

Exposing children to poetry early is a great way to build reading skills and a love for poetry. Children will learn new words, practice reading aloud with expression, and be exposed to rhymes. Children's poetry makes reading fun, which will ignite a passion for the spoken and written word.

Enjoy, discover and share poems:

Try and share a poem by reading to a friend or family member.

Attendance

Please remember that all children are expected back to school.

Mandatory attendance is applied, including:

  • Parents’ duty to ensure that their child of compulsory school age attends regularly at the school where the child is a registered pupil
  • Schools’ responsibilities to record attendance and follow up absence
  • School to have the ability to issue sanctions, including fixed penalty notices, in line with local authorities’ codes of conduct

It is vital for all children to return to school to minimise as far as possible the longer-term impact of the pandemic on children’s education, wellbeing and wider development.

We would like to stress how important it is to attend school and establish routines. Children in school have worked with a blended curriculum to address any gaps from lockdown and are  now accessing a full curriculum. Missing out on lessons leaves children vulnerable to falling behind.

We understand the anxiety the Coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic may be causing. The school has taken every measure recommended by the Government and Public Health England to ensure the safety of all the children and staff.

Continuity of absence of your child will result a referral to the Local Authority’s Education Welfare Officer and a penalty notice.

EVERY DAY IN SCHOOL COUNTS!

Thank you for your co-operation.

News from Reception classes

The children in reception have settled in brilliantly and are beginning to build relationships with their peers. They are already so used to the different routines of the day and manage these as if they have been in school for years. You can always hear the sounds of children laughing and having fun from the reception corridor.

The adults have been challenging the children in their construction work lately. Here you can see the children selecting their own resources so that they can make their construction even better and more interesting. They worked collaboratively, sharing thoughts and ideas and adding a narrative into their play. What fantastic teamwork!

In the playground on Monday we had about forty children working collaboratively to create a huge obstacle course. It was fantastic to stand back and watch the children support each other, come up with different ideas and work together to complete the challenge they had set for themselves. Well done Reception!

Stanger Danger!

Chiildren, remember:

Never go anywhere with a stranger

If a stranger asks you to go with them RUN AWAY and SHOUT OUT for help!

Parents:

Please talk to your children (sensitively) about stranger danger, there are many resources and ideas on the web to support your conversations.

Remote Learning

What will Remote Education look like whilst my child is not at school?

  • Teachers will be setting learning appropriate to your child’s ability, age and stage in the year.
  • Different areas of the curriculum will be planned for your child to access daily so that they do not miss out on the objectives being taught in class.
  • Activities/tasks will now be directly linked to what your child would have been taught in school at that time and will make specific reference to new teaching content as well as consolidating previous learning too.

When does my child/ren complete the Remote Education activities?

  • Your child/ren will need to access and upload their completed activities onto Seesaw each day.
  • There will be a mixture of online and offline activities planned, as we understand that computer/devices may need to be shared within the family.
  • Children should only click on the Green Tick to indicate they are finished when they are ready to share their completed learning with their teacher.
  •

How and when will my child/ren hear from their teacher and get feedback?

  • Teachers will feedback on your child’s learning regularly so that your child does not go off track if they have had a misconception.
  • Teachers can also respond to questions or give pupils additional support if required.
  • Feedback will come in many forms including written/typed comments, acknowledgement of learning, staff audio-recorded feedback, ‘liked’ comments and more.
  • Your child may receive additional challenges to think about in their further learning if they have found something easy or they may get another similar activity if they need extra practice of the skill.
  • If your child does not understand their task, they can contact the teacher via Seesaw to let them know and the teacher will respond when they are able to do so.
  • If the whole class or school are absent from school due to an outbreak or lockdown, teachers will be able to respond throughout the school day. However if only one or two children in a class are absent at a time, I am sure you will understand that our teachers will only be able to give feedback at the end of school day due to their class teaching commitments.

What can I do to support my child’s home learning?

  • We would recommend creating a dedicated area for your child to work on their remote education.
  • We would encourage a set start and finish time that works for you and your family setting.
  • Regular time to move, exercise and have a break will be beneficial for your child’s home learning experience.
  • Read with your child everyday.
  • Check in on what your child(ren) have achieved on a regular basis throughout the day – only upload using the green tick, when you are both happy that the task is completed fully.
