Message from Headship Team

Dear Parents,

Welcome to our last week of the first half term. It has been wonderful to be in school with such fantastic children. The school is buzzing with excitement and learning, which we know will continue and progress after half term. Going back to routine in school after the extreme few months we have had with the pandemic is truly a well balancing feeling.

Thank you to everyone who is following the social distancing rules and helping to keep our school a safe place to be. As the country is currently experiencing an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, can we please remind you to observe the 2 metres distancing rule when dropping your child off in the mornings and when collecting at home time. Please do not socialise on the school playground or just outside. Please keep your distance when talking to staff and do not be offended if they ask you to keep that distance - it is for the safety of us all.

We ask that you continue to wear a mask/face covering when you enter the school playground. Can we also remind you that siblings /adults who are self isolating are not permitted to enter the playground.

May we take this opportunity to wish you all a restful and happy half term break with your children.

Zoe and Kelly

Individual school photographs.

On the first two days back after half term, children will be having their individual photographs taken. This will take place over two days-Monday 2nd November and Tuesday 3rd November.

Due to COVID-19 and the fact that we do not mix bubbles in school, we will not be able to facilitate photos with siblings.

SAFETY

Please do not park /stop in the middle of Chesterfield Road outside the school to drop your children off. This is dangerous. There are times when other cars or motorbikes will try and overtake while children are coming out of the car. Please try and leave home a little earlier so that you can park and walk the short distance to the school. Thank you for your co-operation.

Please find the allocated PE days for autumn 2.

Please remember children need to come to school wearing activewear on their PE day.

This includes:

  • White T-shirt
  • Black shorts in summer
  • Black jogging bottoms
  • Black leggings
  • Trainers
  • School jumper

Children must remove all earrings and watches before PE and games lessons.

Remote Learning

Where a pupil, class, group or small number of pupils need to self-isolate, or there is a local lockdown requiring pupils to remain at home, DfE expects schools to be able to immediately offer them access to remote education. Schools should ensure remote education, where needed, is high-quality and aligns as closely as possible with in-school provision.

When should/should not your child access remote learning at home from Chesterfield Primary?

   SHOULD

? If they are well, but self isolating because track and trace tells them to do so.

? If they are well, but someone in their household or bubble has tested positive so they are self isolating.

? If they are awaiting a result of a test, but are feeling well enough to complete home learning.

? If a medical professional has advised they do not come onto site but they are well enough to do school work.

SHOULD NOT

X If there is no reason why your child should not be at school.

X If you have decided to home school and have withdrawn your child off the Chesterfield Primary roll.

X If you have taken an unauthorised holiday.

X If your child is poorly or unwell.

X If your child cannot access remote learning independently and adults in the home are unwell.

What will Remote Education look like whilst my child is not at school?

  • Teachers will be setting learning appropriate to your child’s ability, age and stage in the year.
  • Different areas of the curriculum will be planned for your child to access daily so that they do not miss out on the objectives being taught in class.
  • Activities/tasks will now be directly linked to what your child would have been taught in school at that time and will make specific reference to new teaching content as well as consolidating previous learning too.

When does my child/ren complete the Remote Education activities?

  • Your child/ren will need to access and upload their completed activities onto Seesaw each day.
  • There will be a mixture of online and offline activities planned, as we understand that computer/devices may need to be shared within the family.
  • Children should only click on the Green Tick to indicate they are finished when they are ready to share their completed learning with their teacher.

How and when will my child/ren hear from their teacher and get feedback?

  • Teachers will feedback on your child’s learning regularly so that your child does not go off track if they have had a misconception.
  • Teachers can also respond to questions or give pupils additional support if required.
  • Feedback will come in many forms including written/typed comments, acknowledgement of learning, staff audio-recorded feedback, ‘liked’ comments and more.
  • Your child may receive additional challenges to think about in their further learning if they have found something easy or they may get another similar activity if they need extra practice of the skill.
  • If your child does not understand their task, they can contact the teacher via Seesaw to let them know and the teacher will respond when they are able to do so.
  • If the whole class or school are absent from school due to an outbreak or lockdown, teachers will be able to respond throughout the school day. However if only one or two children in a class are absent at a time, I am sure you will understand that our teachers will only be able to give feedback at the end of school day due to their class teaching commitments.

What can I do to support my child’s home learning?

  • We would recommend creating a dedicated area for your child to work on their remote education.
  • We would encourage a set start and finish time that works for you and your family setting.
  • Regular time to move, exercise and have a break will be beneficial for your child’s home learning experience.
  • Read with your child everyday.
  • Check in on what your child(ren) have achieved on a regular basis throughout the day – only upload using the green tick, when you are both happy that the task is completed fully.

Be Included...Stay connected

3,200 Chromebooks secure trust-wide roll out!

As one of the largest academy trusts in Enfield which prides itself on its inclusive ethos, the Enfield Learning Trust has taken the decision to invest approximately £750,000 to purchase over 3,200 additional Chromebooks so that every child in the trust from Year 1 and upwards is able to access our programme of digital learning, regardless of whether they are learning in school or remotely from home.

ELT has pioneered digital learning techniques for many years and prides itself on being a tech-savvy education trust.

The use of digital technology to support teaching and learning has always been a strong feature of ELT. This has been given renewed emphasis by the recent lockdown and the need to enable continuity of the curriculum at home through remote teaching and learning.

The Enfield Learning Trust is already a user of the Google suite of digital learning tools in the state education sector, and has set up Google Classroom for pupils across its schools.

Lifelong learning

In order to succeed in this ever-changing landscape, ELT believes that its pupils are going to have to learn new skills later in their life. They’ll have to stay relevant to the world around them and therefore will probably have to reinvent themselves over and over again. This will mean that in addition to offering our pupils a broad curriculum and how to use tools that are useful now, we should help pupils know how to learn and understand new tools themselves – a skill that will endure. In order to do this, we will need to continue to create within them a love of learning. Pupils will need to want to learn independently in order to succeed in a job market which requires lifelong learning.

To achieve this, we will need to make learning challenging, interesting, rewarding and fun for our pupils. In turn pupils will take more control of their own learning in their own time. There are many tools available to help us create this type of learning environment - 1:1 devices will be pivotal in enabling this journey.

Training

Training has been available for all staff on how to use a range of Google tools so that learning can continue, whether that is face to face in the classroom or remotely from home, including providing access to high quality teaching and learning resources online for various year groups.

ELT Strategy

ELT will continue with its strategy to work hard to up-skill the next generation with core knowledge to ensure that all our pupils are properly prepared for the challenges they’ll face in the 21st century. Our educational strategy for ICT is also built around closing the skills gap in computer science and offering equality of access through digital learning opportunities to all our pupils in the Trust.

We are proud to be included and to be connected

We know that you can have the best digital learning strategy in the world, the best content, and brilliantly trained teachers to deliver it, but if pupils can’t access it at home, then learning becomes a challenge. Being included goes right to the heart of who we are at ELT, and so we want to make sure that all our pupils can access digital learning.

Enfield Learning Trust be included …. be connected

Look out for this competition coming soon!

Attendance

All parents want the best for their children and for them to get on well in life. Having a good education is important to ensure that they have the best opportunities in their adult life. In the current climate it is understandable that you may have some concerns with sending your child to school at times, but please be reminded of the following:

  1. Children only get one chance at school, and your child’s future may be affected by not attending school regularly. If children do not attend school regularly they may:

  • Struggle to keep up with school work.

  • Miss out on the social side of school life. Poor attendance can affect children’s ability to make and keep friendships.

  1. Setting good attendance patterns from an early age will also help your child later on in their life.

  2. Being on time is also vital. Arriving late at school can be very disruptive for your child, their teacher and the other children in the class.

Celebration assembly and Attendance class certificates

Starting after half term, our Monday celebration assemblies will include a certificate for the class with the highest attendance. The class with the most certificates will have the opportunity to have a wonderful trip to 'Go Ape' at the end of the year.  Announcements of the weekly winners will be announced in the newsletter.

100% and 99% individual certificates

At the end of each term, children who achieve 99% and 100% attendance for the term receive a certificate and a small gift. Good luck!

Our school target is 96%
