At Chesterfield, we believe that music is a powerful and joyful way for children to express themselves, build confidence, and connect with others. Led by our Music Lead, Magda Mazur, our music provision is aligned with the Department for Education’s National Plan for Music Education and Model Music Curriculum, ensuring every child receives a high-quality, inclusive and rich musical education.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum builds musical skills progressively across four core pillars outlined by the DfE:

• Singing & Vocal Development: Pupils sing regularly from Early Years through Key Stage 2, developing pitch, control, group harmony, and confidence.

• Listening & Appraising: Children explore a diverse range of musical genres, historical eras, and traditions across global cultures, building critical listening skills and musical vocabulary.

• Performing & Instrumental Skills: Every child participates in our whole-class Ukulele programme, building foundational instrumental techniques, rhythm, and ensemble performance skills.

• Composing & Improvisation: Pupils experiment with sounds, rhythm, melody, and texture to create, record, and refine their own original musical pieces.

Co-Curricular Opportunities & Performance

Beyond the classroom, Chesterfield provides rich opportunities for pupils to develop their talents:

• School Choir: Our vibrant choir gives children the opportunity to sing in multi-part harmony and perform at school events and community showcases.

• Live Music Experiences: Pupils enjoy regular opportunities to perform in assemblies, participate in seasonal concerts, and experience live music.
