History

Welcome to our History page! At Chesterfield, we believe that understanding the past is key to making sense of the present and shaping the future. History is a thrilling journey through time, allowing our children to become detectives, investigating how people lived, what challenges they faced, and how societies have changed.

Our History curriculum sparks curiosity and helps pupils develop a strong sense of chronology, allowing them to place significant events, people, and developments within a broader historical context. We encourage them to ask 'why?' and 'how?', fostering an enquiring mind about the past.

Through engaging lessons, our children learn about:

  • Key periods and civilisations: From ancient times to more recent history, both in Britain and the wider world.
  • Significant events and individuals: Exploring the impact of influential figures and pivotal moments.
  • Historical sources and evidence: Learning to analyse artefacts, documents, and other sources to build a picture of the past.
  • Change and continuity: Understanding how things have changed over time while recognising elements that have remained the same.

We aim to bring history to life, encouraging our young historians to develop critical thinking skills, empathy for people from different eras, and an appreciation for the rich tapestry of human experience.
