Parent to school day

We are happy to announce our next ‘Parent to school’ event. Sharing information with families about what happens at school within lessons, helps parents understand how they can best support their child’s progress. It is also an opportunity to share the experience of your child’s life at school. Parents have the opportunity to ask questions and gain an understanding of our school values.

Please see letter for details about days and times.

Dance moves with Callen Taverner

Children enjoyed learning new steps with our visitor Callen this week. Thank you Callen for introducing children to the enjoyment of dancing. Children were still talking about it the next day!

Year 2 trip to a church

On Wednesday the 14th December, the Year 2 children took a careful walk through the ice and snow to St Peter and St Paul's Church at the end of Chesterfield Road, to learn about how and why Christians celebrate Christmas. Father Stephen warmly welcomed us all into his Church and explained where the story of Christmas came from. He then retold the story of the nativity and got all of the children involved. They loved learning about the story and particularly enjoyed dressing up as the different characters.

Year 1 parents-You are invited to read with your child in their class

In year 1, we have a reading morning every Wednesday in both classes. Parents join us to read stories to their child and others in the class. The staff in the class help to write in reading records to show all the amazing reading we are doing at school and at home.

The session is from 8.50-9.05am, all parents in Year 1 are welcome to join us.

Thank you from the Year 1 team to all those parents who have attended so far.

An owl visited Chesterfield and had photos taken with the children in KS1, Early Years and Olympus class. The children leaned about the different species and were treated to a flying display.

Year 6 Argentina class

In Year 6, Argentina Class have really enjoyed reading Cloud Busting by Malorie Blackman as their class book. They enjoyed it so much they read it in less than a week!

"I really liked that it had lots of emotions in it and it was a book about friendship." Sky McLean, Argentina Class.

Our school Library

The children have been enjoying using our library this week. Children choose to come into their library during their lunchtime and enjoy a good book with their friend. Remember, our library is open every Tuesday at 8.30 to all parents who would like to explore all of our wonderful books with their child.

Know how to help your child stay safe on the Internet

Date: Tuesday 7th February

The Royal Observatory

Year 5 went to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich this week. They learned all about space, saw a spectacular view of London and even spent some time laying back in the planetarium. We gained a new insight into our solar system and came back with lots of new facts! The children were all a credit to Chesterfield and we are looking forward to more fun activities and trips this year.
