School Attendance

Your child’s attendance at school is extremely important. Those children who are consistently late or have attendance below 96% are categorised as a ‘Cause for Concern’.

Please support your children by sending them to school every day and on time.

Wherever possible, please ensure your child attends medical appointments outside of the school day. Holidays during term time will not be authorised

Well done all of you!

Are you up for a reading challenge?

We are launching our very first reading challenge for the children over the half- term break. Our aim is to encourage reading for pleasure.

Early Years

The children in reception have been learning about heroes this term - real life and fantasy. They explored different occupations during a visit from Little City and they used their “Catman” to summon Catman to save Nicola who had her finger stuck. Never fear - Catman came to the rescue and saved the day. Throughout the month they have been receiving videos from Catman and they created their own Catman logos, so it was very exciting to finally meet him in real life!

For our EYFS dress up day the children could come dressed as their favourite fantasy hero or a real life hero. We had a variety of heroes including Batman, Elsa, Spider-Man, a doctor, a nurse, a vet and even Wednesday Addams!

Science at Chesterfield

On Monday 13th March we celebrated the beginning of National Science Week with an absolutely amazing, inspirational show provided by the Royal Institution. The show was called 'Explosive Food' and took us on a guided tour through the human digestive system, with a few explosive experiments along the way. The children helped to 'chew' the food, 'digest it' in the stomach and then they watched it travel through the intestine before emerging as...poo! Their reactions were incredible, it was a joy to see them so excited about Science.

Throughout the week classes had the opportunity to plant seeds for our edible garden, due to the inclement weather many of these are sheltering in classrooms currently. Our plan is to cook the food we have grown in the summer term. If you would like to get involved and help look after the Edible Garden in the Summer Term please contact James Quinlan (year 5).

At Chesterfield we want all of our children to be curious scientists. We want our children to aspire to great things, growing up with a desire to be doctors, engineers, astronauts and forensic scientists.

Nut Free School

We would like to remind all parents and children that we are a nut free school. We have children and staff on site that have severe allergies to nuts. Please not include nuts in lunches or snacks.

Insure all water bottles and lunch boxes are clearly labelled with your child's name.

Check all labels of food items that are in your child's lunch box and ensure they do not contain nuts. Traces of

Goodbye Andrea

Andrea Demirdjian will sadly be leaving us at the end of this term. Andrea has been a dedicated and passionate class teacher at Chesterfield for the last 12 years.

Andrea has taught many of the children at Chesterfield, especially during their time in KS1, and has been responsible for leading and developing a range of curriculum subjects including PE, English and oracy.

Andrea will be greatly missed by us all and we wish her the best of luck as she continues teaching in a school closer to home. We would like to thank Andrea for her dedication to the children of Chesterfield.

Year 4 trip to Tate Modern

On February 21st, Year 4 had an amazing visit to the Tate Modern gallery in London. They went to view an exhibition by the artist, Paul Cezanne.

Year 4 have been learning about this artist. They have studied his tone and shading techniques and have created their own still life painting in a Cezanne style. They had a wonderful time looking round the gallery and seeing the artists work in real life. It was so nice to hear the children being commended by adults visiting the exhibition for their knowledge of the artist and his paintings. There were some very impressed tourists, well done year 4!

Year 3 Somalia class had a wonderful time at the British museum.

Maths day at Chesterfield
