Message from CONNECT CEO

Dear Families,

I would like to thank you for choosing to send your child/children to one of our Connect Education Trust schools. Each of our schools is unique and an amazing place for our wonderful children to learn and grow. Please browse through The Connect Welcome Brochure when you get a moment. May I take this opportunity to wish you all an enjoyable summer break and we look forward to welcoming you all back at the start of the Autumn term in September.

Goodbye

We say goodbye to Zoe Hussain the Headteacher of Chesterfield. We would like to thank Zoe for her success in transforming Chesterfield to the wonderful school it is today. We wish her all the best in her new role for a Trust in Hertfordshire.

We also say goodbye to, Lucy, Georgina, Katie, Tim and Jeremy. We thank them all for their valuable contributions to the school and wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.

Our Deputy Headteacher Emma will be joining another school in the trust for a term. We wish her all the best.

Finally, goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 children, Peru, Brazil and Argentina class. Your end of year production of 'Matilda" was captivating, well done. We hope you enjoyed your time at Chesterfield and take away memorable moments. You have been absolutely fantastic and we will all miss you!

 Athletics

On Thursday 15th June, children from KS2 went to Lee Valley Athletics Centre to compete in the Borough Athletics competition. Out of the Connect Trust schools, we came second, amassing a solid total of 126 points. The children behaved impeccably and were a credit to Chesterfield School. A big congratulations must also go to:

Riley and Nicodene in year 5; the year 6 girls relay team and Tokenzo, all of whom won their respective races. Well done all - we're very proud of you!

Term time attendance expectation

May we please remind you that children must not be taken out of school during term time (and without school's permission) for holidays.

  • Section 7 of the Education Act 1996 places upon parents a duty to ensure that their child receives efficient full-time education either by regular attendance at school or otherwise

  • Please note, you may also be at risk of a penalty notice

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you would like to discuss the contents of this further.

School Attendance

Your child’s attendance at school is extremely important. Those children who are consistently late or have attendance below 96% are categorised as a ‘Cause for Concern’.

Please support your children by sending them to school every day and on time.

Wherever possible, please ensure your child attends medical appointments outside of the school day. Holidays during term time will not be authorised

For more information on expectations for school attendance click here

Well done to all the children who received 100% and 99% attendance certificates in assembly today.

Follow the TALK checklist to help keep your child safe online.

The ‘TALK’ checklist from the Internet Watch Foundation is a brilliant free resource that helps inform parents/carers about online safety and gives excellent practical tips, including conversation starters to use with their children.“Whether your child has been using the Internet independently for a while, or are about to get their first mobile phone, it is not too late to take these steps”.

T - TALK to your child about online sexual abuse. Start the conversation – and listen to their concerns.

A - AGREE ground rules about the way you use technology as a family.

L -  LEARN about the platforms and apps your child loves. Take an interest in their online life.

K - KNOW how to use tools, apps and settings that can help to keep your child safe online.

Talk about sharing on WhatsApp

Make use of safety features
Show your child how to block and report other users of the app or inappropriate content.
Talk to your child regularly about what they should and shouldn’t share with others on WhatsApp. You can read more about
this here: https://www.nspcc.org.uk/keeping-children-safe/online-safety/social-media/
Remind your child that, even if they think what they are sending will stay private, others might save, forward or screenshot it.

Talk to them about making sure others are comfortable with what they are sending and let them know they can come to you if they are worried about something they have shared on the app.
Set rules about location sharing
Decide with your child if it is appropriate for them to share their location with others and who they are allowed to share it with.

You can disable location permissions by going into your device settings and switching off location services for WhatsApp.
